June Terrill Broadrick

Harry and Bryant Funeral Home

CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte, N.C.

June Terrill Broadrick passed away June 6, 2013.

She was born in Madison County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Joseph Maupin and Mary Witt Terrill; and a beloved wife to her late husband, George H. Broadrick.

Mrs. Broadrick attended Madison County schools and Berea College in Berea, Kentucky. She moved to Detroit, Michigan, to live with one of her sisters, and was employed by Chevrolet Gear and Axle.

While traveling back to Detroit, she met a young handsome military officer in the dining car of a train, who would become her future husband. As World War II progressed, they mainly courted by mail until they were married in April of 1945. She traveled with George in his assignments with the Army Air Force, living in such places as Boston, Massachusetts; Denver, Colorado; Biloxi, Mississippi; and Boca Raton, Florida. They finally ended up living in his hometown of Fort Valley, Georgia, where he was stationed at Warner Robbins Air Force Base. In 1954, they moved with their daughter to Smithfield, North Carolina, where George went to work for First Citizens Bank and Trust Company. In 1960, they moved to Charlotte, to continue expanding the bank in that area.

She was small but formidable. Despite bouts of illness and years of chronic ailments, she never stopped being a loving neighbor and good friend. She was extremely generous to her family and to all the people she loved.

June is survived by: her daughter, Mary Sue Broadrick Moffitt; and her husband, John E. Moffitt Sr.; granddaughters, Angela Moffitt Bowman and her husband, Tony Bowman, of Jamestown, North Carolina, Christina Moffitt Davis and her husband, Russell K. Davis, of Emerald Isle, North Carolina; grandson John E. Moffitt Jr. and his wife, Kristin Moffitt.

She is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Austin K. Crouch, USAF, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Sydney, Addison and Braeden Davis; and a great-granddaughter to be born in October. She is also survived by one sister, Elizabeth Stoddart of Cincinnati, Ohio; and by many wonderful nieces and nephews whom she loved very much.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Gordon M. Terrill and Jefferson Cox Terrill, and six sisters, Ann Terrill Azbill, Tommie Terrill Carman, Josephine Terrill Izlar, Sue Terrill Hayes, Nancy Terrill Dunn and Mary Terrill Amster.

Her funeral service took place Tuesday, June 11, in the sanctuary of Myers Park United Methodist Church. Interment followed at Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
