Betty Jean Lamb Johnson

BEREA — Betty Jean Lamb Johnson, age 82, died May 18, 2013, after a long illness.

She was born on May 6, 1931, in Berea, Kentucky, and lovingly raised by her paternal grandparents, Ella and Harry Lamb. She was the daughter of the late Harrison Oswald Lamb who died when Betty was a child.

Betty was a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University and worked as the Garrard County 4-H Extension Agent until her daughter’s birth in 1962. She later taught in the Fayette County Adult Education Program. She and her late husband co-owned Fayette Gallery Ltd. in Fayette Mall for 27 years.

Betty was a member of the Kentucky Society of Mayflower Descendants and the Transylvania Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Freddie Lee Johnson, to whom she was married 52 years. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Lee Johnson, of Lexington.

Lisa wishes to thank Wellspring Health Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, for the professional and compassionate care given to her mother during her illness. Thanks also to Evercare Hospice of Cincinnati and Father David Bailey at St. Stephens Episcopal Church for loving care and prayer during the last days of her mom’s life.

Most of all, Lisa gratefully thanks Ann Loggins and ParentcareKy Inc. for their insight, dedication, compassion and support in helping her care for Mom, particularly at the late stages of her illness. The journey of caring for a parent with Lewy Body Dementia is difficult and heartwrenching.

Ann, you were truly a blessing and a compass on this journey, and my mom and I will never be able to thank you sufficiently for your help, guidance and kindness.

In lieu of flowers Lisa requests memorials to one of the following: Garrard County 4-H Cooperative Extension, 1302 Stanford St., Lancaster, KY 40444-1238, or Legacy Home Ministry, PO Box 674, Lexington, KY 40588.

Visitation and funeral will be at Christ Church Cathedral, 166 Market St., Lexington, Kentucky, on Thursday, May 23. Visitation will be from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m. with the funeral to begin at 11 a.m.

Interment in the Lexington Cemetery following the funeral.
