Russell Edward Thacker, 87, of Richmond passed away Thursday, May 16, 2013, in the Hospice Compassionate Care Center of Richmond.
He was born April 12, 1926, in Rockcastle County to Charles and Pearl Day Thacker, both of whom preceded him in death. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Catherine Hutchinson Thacker, and one daughter, Brenda Kay Dargavell.
Mr. Thacker was a retired fork-lift operator for the Coca-Cola Bottling Company and the last living charter member of the Lancaster Road Church of God.
He is survived by: one son, Larry A. Thacker (Sharon), and one daughter, Karen Quarrles, both of Richmond; eight grandchildren, Randy Dargavell, Thalia Broadus, Kevin Thacker, Richie Quarrles, Kelly Quarrles, Larry Ashley Quarrles, Jill Casey and Jayme Mink; 13 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and son-in-law Billy Dargavell.
Other survivors include: one brother, Elvin Thacker (Teresa); and four sisters, Barbara Thacker Smith, Sue Rhodus, Roberta Lainhart (Rev. Levi) and Melissa Isaacs; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2013, at the Lancaster Road Church of God with Bro. Jack Crockett, Bro. Butch Payne and his son, Bro. Larry Thacker, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the church.
Pallbearers will be: Gene Hutchison, Ashley Quarrles, Randy Dargavell, Kevin Thacker, Kelly Quarrles, Richie Quarrles, Richard Quarrles and Greg Field.
Members of his Bible Sunday school class, Darrel Agee and Mark Broadus will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
