LEXINGTON — Mr. Jesse McIntosh, 99 years old, passed away on Friday, September 6, 2013, at Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Ky.

He had resided at the Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore, Ky., for the past five years.

Jesse was born on March 21, 1914 in Buckhorn, Ky., to Albert and Elvira McIntosh.

Jesse married Ruth Abner, of Middletown, on April 5, 1943, in Columbia, S.C., while he was stationed with the Army at Fort Jackson, S.C.

He served in the Army for nine years; reaching the rank of first lieutenant and company commander while serving in Iceland, North Africa and Italy during World War II.

Jesse retired from Armco Steel Corporation in 1978 after 33 years of service. He was a member of the Masons and the Junior Order of Mechanics. He was a member of the Meadowlawn Church of God and Towne Boulevard Church of God.

Jesse is survived by: one daughter, Jo Ann (husband, Phil) Thornbery of Middletown, Ohio; two sons, Jerry (wife, Joyce) McIntosh of Middletown, Ohio, and Mark (wife, Debbie) McIntosh of Richmond, Ky.

He also is survived by: five grandchildren, Andy (Vanessa Moyer) Thornbery of Franklin, Ohio, Sarah Thornbery of Middletown, Ohio, Jennifer (Jonathan) Brisken of Lebanon, Ohio, Hannah McIntosh of Birmingham, Ala., and Rachel (Ryan) DeCoster of Richmond, Ky.; and two great-grandchildren, Sebastian Brisken of Lebanon, Ohio, and Easton DeCoster of Richmond, Ky.

Jesse is also survived by: one sister, Zola Handley of Arizona, and one brother, Wilson McIntosh of Louisville, Ky.

Jesse was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth in 2003; his parents, three sisters and one brother.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or any charity of one’s choice.

Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 11, 2013, at the Baker-Stevens-Parramore Funeral Home with a Celebration of Life Service to begin at 2 p.m. with Dr. Dan Flory officiating.

Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery.
