David Leroy Midgett, 60, of Richmond, passed away Saturday, November 16, 2013, at Baptist Health-Lexington.
He was born February 11, 1953, in Oblong, Illinois, the youngest of nine children, to Millard and Helen (Walter) Midgett, both of whom preceded him in death. David was also preceded in death this year by his wife of 31 years, Devera Lou (Field) Midgett.
He graduated from Oblong Township High School in 1971 and from Lincoln Trail College in Robinson, Illinois, with honors, in 1980. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, from 1971-1978, and served on the USS Worden.
David had retired from Eastern Kentucky University Database Administration and was a senior consultant in information and technology at Ellucian.
He is fondly remembered by friends and colleagues alike, and his passing is mourned by friends, family and colleagues across the United States.
Survivors include: two stepdaughters, Maria Patricia Finley of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Elena Maria Margarita M. Finley of Owensboro, Ky.; three stepsons, Charles Michael Finley (and Rhonda) of Monroe, Ohio, Juan Manuel Escobar (and Vidu) of Florence, N.J., and Jose Alfredo Escobar (and Jennifer) of Berea, Ky.
He also leaves: three sisters, Bonnie Finn (and Ron), Rosalee Smith (and Ron), and Norma Thompson (and Don), all of Oblong, Ill.; one brother, Robert Midgett (and Tina) of Robinson, Ill.; seven step-grandchildren, Michael Alfonso Finley (and Tisha), Maria Margarita Sassin (and Dominic); David Michael Finley, Jessica Nicole Finley, Manvi Escobar, Lydia Eleanor Escobar and Isabel Lochiel Escobar; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, David was preceded in death by: two sisters, Carolyn Wiman and Joyce Midgett; two brothers, Keith and Walter Midgett; two nephews and one niece.
Services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, November 21, 2013, at the Berea United Methodist Church. Rev. Phil Bradley will officiate. Entombment will follow in the Berea Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home.
