Dr. William A. Browne, 78

RICHMOND — Dr. William A. Browne, 78, passed away Monday evening, November 11, 2013, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond.

Dr. Browne was born September 12, 1935, in Biltmore, North Carolina, the son of the late William Thomas and Lucy Denton Browne.

He was a retired professor and former department chair of The Traffic Safety Institute at Eastern Kentucky University.

Survivors include: his wife, Jane Conley Browne; one daughter, Julie Browne Gustafson and husband Tim of Charlotte, N.C.; two sons, William Albert “Bert” Browne and wife Starla, and Gregory Vincent Browne and wife Karla, both of Richmond; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild: Evan Gustafson and wife Katie and their daughter, Maggie Jane; Katie Gustafson, Ashley Gustafson, Clark Gustafson, Kandy Browne and Kole Browne; one sister, Betsy King (Al) of Greenville, N.C.; three sisters-in-law, Doris Smith of Wadesboro, N.C., and Thelma Conley and Joan Chappell, both of Morganton, N.C.

The family will receive friends and relatives at a reception in memory of Dr. Browne from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, November 14, 2013, in the fellowship hall of First Baptist Church, 425 Eastern Bypass, Richmond, Kentucky.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice Compassionate Care Center, 350 Isaacs Lane or to The Telford Terrace, 1025 Robert L. Telford Drive, Richmond, Kentucky 40475.
