RICHMOND — Norvaline Cates Hale, 82, of Richmond, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013.

She was born in Madison County, Ky., on Dec. 27, 1930, the daughter of the late Alex and Sue Masters Cates.

She was a graduate of Kirksville High School and Eastern Ky. University and received a doctorate degree from Indiana University.

She was a professor in the College of Business at Eastern Ky. University for 32 years. Norvaline also was a farmer and pursued many other business interests.

Survivors include: one daughter, Lana Sue Harrison; four grandchildren, Terry Gortney (Doris), Jessica Hale, Eve Gortney and Lindsey Prater (Brandon); five great-grandchildren, Gary Willis, Tyler Hale, Thristian Hale, Sebastian Poynter and Gabriella Gortney; a special aunt, Ruth Chandler; and several cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Fort and Johny Collins officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Billy Collins, Gary Clark, Terry Gortney, Tyler Hale, Thristian Hale, Gary Willis, Joe Masters and Johny Collins.
