Robert Fritz, 91

RICHMOND — Robert Fritz, 91, of Richmond, died Monday, October 14, 2013, at Baptist Health-Richmond.

He was born June 27, 1922, in Estill County, Kentucky, to John and Zoda (Thomas) Fritz, both of whom preceded him in death.

He retired as chief of the Bluegrass Army Depot Fire Department after 30 years of federal service, and was a prominent businessman, landowner and farmer in Madison County for more than 70 years.  He enjoyed buying, selling and trading farms. Mr. Fritz was an avid golfer and loved and lived for his entire family, especially his grandsons.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942 through 1943. For over 50 years, he was a member of Red House Baptist Church, where he served for many years as deacon and trustee, and more recently a member of First Baptist Church of Richmond. He was a faithful follower of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through living daily a life of honesty, kindness and generosity. 

Survivors include: his wife, Jane (Tribble) Fritz of Richmond; one daughter, Carol Ann (Fritz) Vickers and her husband, Dr. Robert Clayton Vickers, of Richmond; two grandsons, Robert Vinson Vickers and his wife, Amy, of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Ryan Clayton Vickers and his wife, Heather, of Canton, Michigan; four great-grandchildren, Jake Ryan, Emery Robinson, Cole Jackson and Ava Catherine; one brother, Douglas Fritz; two sisters, Florence Zeman and Juanita Wagers; and numerous loving and devoted nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: two brothers, Donald and Arnold Fritz; and seven sisters, Curlene Winkler, Anna Mae Fritz, Willie Jo Arvin, Lelia Schoenberg, Etta Rea Golden, Julia Johnson and Dorothy Stahl.

The funeral service for Mr. Fritz will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, October 18, 2013, at the First Baptist Church on the Eastern Bypass with the Reverend Bill Fort, Dr. Terry Lester, Dr. Robert Vickers and Dr. Glenn Birkett officiating.

Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Vince Vickers, Ryan Vickers, Paul Frazier, David Frazier, Kevin Payne, Jeff Shepherd, Dr. Delbert Fritz and Patrick Lay.

Honorary pallbearers will be Richard “Bud” Carr, Terry and Hilde Kline, Charles Metcalf, Ed Worley, Tommy Congleton, Harry Bush, Charles Benton, Danny Turner, Clark Pergrem and Don Jaynes.

Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, October 17, 2013, at the church.

Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
