RICHMOND — Bertha Lewis Pennington, 85, of Richmond, passed away Thursday morning, September 5, 2013, at the home of her son in Marion, Indiana.

She was born, December 2, 1927, in Leslie County, to the late Mathias and Katie (Callahan) Lewis.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Golden Pennington. Mrs. Pennington was a homemaker and a member of the Richmond Church of Christ.

Survivors include: five sons, N.L. Pennington (Linda) of Indiana, John Pennington (Judy) of Indiana, Ben Pennington (Rose) of Richmond, Ky., Joseph Pennington (Doris) of Richmond, Ky., and Okey Pennington of Georgia; four daughters, Marie Kiser (Ron) of Georgia, Rachel Ledbetter (Richard) of South Carolina, Katie Green of Georgia and Polly Jane Schneider (Harold) of Georgia; 18 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Bertha also was preceded in death by four brothers, Gid Lewis, Astar Lewis, Willie Lewis and Wilson Lewis; and by two sisters, Oma Rice and Hazel Lewis.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, September 9, 2013, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with Bro. Jack Hall and Bro. Mike Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Madison Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. 

 

Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
