William Hubert Abney, 81

BEREA — William Hubert Abney, 81, of Keith Drive, passed away Tuesday morning at his home.

Hubert was born in Rockcastle County to the late John M. and Ann Robinson Abney. He was a retired machinist from the National Lead Company and a U.S. Army Korean War veteran.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by three brothers, Clelan “Dick”, Ralph and Howard Abney.

He is survived by his loving wife of more than 59 years, Kathleen Harding Abney, and five children, Brenda (Jerry) Pennington of McKee, Greg (Karen) Abney of Berea, Debbie (Wayne) Chamberlain of Las Vegas, N.M., Barbara Smith of London and Douglas Abney of Mount Vernon. One brother, Joe Abney; two sisters, Geneva Jones and Edna Cates; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren also survive him.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, 2013, at Lakes Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Chamberlain and Rev. Wayne Harding officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Berea Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Scottie Pennington, Robbie Schlenk, Joshua Barrett, Ryan Smith, Travis Pennington, Stephen Smith and Colby Chamberlain.
