Lancaster — Hazel Starnes, 87, of Davis Avenue, Lancaster, died Friday at Markey Cancer Center in Lexington, Ky. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Samuel Starnes.

Hazel was born in Garrard County, Ky., to the late Nathan and Delia Brock Day. She was a homemaker and a member of Leavel Green Christian Church.

Surviving are: five sons, Paul Starnes (Paula) of Stanford, Ky., Donald Starnes (Ann) of Georgetown, Ky., Earl Starnes (Sheila) of Stanford, Ky., Charles Starnes of Midway, Ky., and James Starnes of Victoria, Texas; five sisters, Margaret May (Elmer) of Lancaster, Gladys Green (Maurice) of Boston, Ky., Para Lee Bean of Lancaster, Mary Ruth Poynter of Bybee, Ky., and Barbara Ann Napier of Lancaster; and three brothers, Robert Day of Cartersville, Ky., Boyd Day (Louise) of Stanford, and Ernest Day (Mary Ruth) of Elizabethtown, Ky.

Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Christine Moore and Mae Bolton, and two brothers, Bill Day and Jerry Day.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, October 28, 2013, at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel in Lancaster with the Rev. Harvie Spry officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 8 Sunday. Burial in Manse Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Andrew, Chris, Brian, Wayne, Josh, Charles and Rusty Starnes.
