Peggy Jean Click Kelly, 82


BEREA — Peggy Jean Click Kelly, age 82, of Berea, died Wednesday, April 3, 2013, in Central Baptist Hospital of Lexington.

She was born in Berea to the late Glyndon Lloyd and Lola Mary Abney Click.

Mrs. Kelly was a member of the Berea First Christian Church and Madison County Retired Teachers Association. She was a former regent of the DAR and former president of the Progress Club, former president of Delta Kappa Gamma.

Mrs. Kelly graduated from Berea College in 1952, with a degree in home economics. She began teaching in the Madison County Schools where she taught at Waco High School and Kingston Junior High School. In 1970, she began teaching middle school science at Berea Community Schools.

In 1975, she became the high school guidance counselor and was also an instructional supervisor, dean of students and assistant superintendent for the Berea Independent School System.

She was the recipient of the teacher of the year award from both the Berea and Madison County school systems.

Mrs. Kelly is survived by: her daughter, Linda Kelly Taylor (Gary) of Berea; granddaughter Kelly Elizabeth Taylor of Richmond; sister Betty Click Powers of Richmond; brother Dr. C. Glen Click (Karon) of Stanford; nieces and nephews Carol Powers Elkin of Berea, Jim Powers (Debra) of Richmond, Karon Anne Click of Winston-Salem, N.C., Sean Click (Laura) of Lexington, Joyce Kelly Jones (Mil) of The Woodlands, Texas, Ralph Kelly (Angelia) of N. Middletown, Ky., and Mark Kelly (Tammy) of Louisville. Several great nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Kelly will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Davis & Powell Funeral Home with the Rev. J. Randolph Osborne officiating. Burial will follow in the Berea Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Sean Click, Jerry David Mullins, Lonnie Abney, Jim Powers, Garrett Powers and Ralph Kelly.
