David Bertram, 71

RICHMOND —

A brilliant light went out on Sunday, January 12, 2014, as David Bertram, born September 18, 1942, was called home.

He was one of eight children born to the late William V. and Laura Hurt Bertram.

A devoted family man, he was most at ease on the farm where he and his wife spent nearly 20 years. He enjoyed his garden, fishing, woodworking and being outdoors. A self-taught musician, he loved playing the guitar and banjo and had a beautiful singing voice. He was also a United States Army veteran having served in the Vietnam era as a paratrooper.

He leaves behind a hole in the heart of all who knew and respected him. He attended the Calvary Baptist Church in Richmond.

Mr. Bertram is survived by: his loving and devoted wife of 47 years, Carolyn Lawson Bertram; three daughters, Tonya Rogers (Paul), Renee Azbill and husband Rick, and Stacy Bertram, all of Richmond; two beautiful grandchildren, Kevin Azbill (Amanda) and Marina Rogers; two brothers, Ray Bertram and wife Anita, and Gary Bertram and wife Jan; three sisters, Ginny Rollins and husband Jim, Helen Atherton and husband James, and Alene Roberts and husband Hugh; two special sisters-in-law, Janet Bertram and Marilyn Bertram; his father-in-law, Eugene Lawson; a brother-in-law, Ken Lawson and wife Brenda; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Rev. Lynn Bertram and Larry Bertram.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, January 16, 2014, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Howard and Rev. Pat Prather officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery with full military honors.

Visitation is requested from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

His daughters and sons-in-law will serve as pallbearers.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to Compassionate Care Center, 350 Isaacs Lane, Richmond, KY 40475.
