Verda Tudor Swaner Coy, 93

RICHMOND — Verda Tudor Swaner Coy, 93, of Richmond, passed away Wednesday, December 25, 2013, at Telford Terrace in Richmond.

She was born April 25, 1920, in Madison County, Kentucky, to Virgil Allen and Florence Griggs Tudor, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Roy B. Swaner Jr., and her second husband, James T. Coy Jr.

She was a long-time employee (1942-1980) of State Bank & Trust Company of Richmond, retiring as vice president and trust officer. She was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and DAR of Boonesborough-Society of Boonesborough.

Survivors include:

One brother, Dr. William H. Tudor (Vicki); a nephew, Russell H. Cotton (Betty) of Danville Ky.; seven nieces, Wayne Ann Tudor of Richmond, Ky., Verda Lee Rochford (Jeff) of New York City, N.Y., Dr. Kathy Cotton of Tucson, Ariz., Anne C. Fowler (Guy) of Danville, Ky., Carol T. Thomas (Don) and Cynthia T. Stover (Charles E.), both of Richmond, Lisa T. Middleton (Jeff) of Louisville, Ky.;

Seven great-nieces, Dr. Katherine K. Beiting (Mike) of Crestview Hills, Ky., Jessica F. McCowan (Jeff) and Katie F., both of Danville, Ky., Brook C. Elliott (Chris) of Nicholasville, Ky., Gillian Stover of Richmond, Emily and Sarah Middleton of Louisville.

Eight great-nephews, Russ Cotton of Louisville, Ky., Greg and Hagan Cotton of Danville, Ky., John Kerbaugh of Tucson, Ariz., Phillip and Chris Begley, Todd Meeks, Charles E. Stover III of Richmond, Ky., and several great-great-nieces and nephews;

One stepson, James T. Coy III (Ruth); one stepdaughter, Hays Coy Howard (Neil); four step-grandsons, James T. Coy IV (Julianna) of Richmond, Dr. Samuel Coy (Brook) of Lexington, Dr. Edward Turpin (Yeny) of Huntsville, Ala., John Turpin High Point, N.C., and six step-great-grandsons.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she also was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Allen Tudor; and a sister, Katherine Tudor Cotton (Russell); two nephews, Joe Allen Cotton and Charles Allen Tudor II.

Services for Mrs. Coy will be conducted 7 p.m. Friday, December 27, 2013, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with Dr. Glenn Birkett and Dr. Robert Vickers officiating. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 28, 2013, in the Richmond Cemetery. Nephews and grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Mrs. Coy requested no flowers, but rather that donations be made to First Christian Church, PO Box 216, Richmond, KY 40476 or a charity of choice.

    Mrs. Lakes was born June 13, 1930, in Rockcastle County to James and Delia Johnson Abrams.
    She was retired from Brown & Williams Tobacco Company in Lexington. She was a faithful listener of the WLJC Gospel Broadcast and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

  • Gary Lee Winburn, 69

    Gary Lee Winburn, 69, of Richmond, passed away Monday, April 14, 2014, at the UK Medical Center in Lexington.
    A native of Richmond, Kentucky, he was the son of Marcus and Johnetta Arch Winburn, both of whom preceded him in death. Gary had been an employee of the former Begley Drug Company and was a retired employee of Car Quest Auto Parts Store. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Richmond.
