W. J. Agee, 81

Poosey Ridge

Poosey Ridge — W.J. Agee, 81, of Poosey Ridge, was called to his heavenly home to be with the Lord after a long illness on Saturday, May 11, 2013.

Mr. Agee was born on October 6, 1931, in Madison County to the late Wade Moss and Carlia Hall Agee.

Baptized into Christ as a young man in Oldham County, Ky., he spent his younger years in Oldham County and returned to Madison County at the age of 17.

He was always willing to help neighbors and was known as the local veterinarian. He was a retired dairy operator, tobacco farmer for over 52 years and cattleman.

Mr. Agee served in the U.S. Army, 101st Airborne Division out of Fort Campbell, Ky., from January 1953 to December 1954. He was stationed at Eielson Air Force Base in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Mr. Agee is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Nannie Cates Agee; his daughter, Connie L. Agee of Richmond; one brother, Moss Agee, Jr. of Corbin; three sisters, Faye York, and husband Carl, of Paint Lick, Jane Hardwick of Lancaster, and Ruth Joyce Roberts, and husband Lee, of Berea.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Eddie Agee; and his sisters, Helen Wantland, and Bernice Cates, and husband Earl.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, May 16, 2013, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Bro. Butch Pennington and Bro. Shelby Cates officiating.

Burial will follow in the Madison County Memorial Gardens with full military honors.

Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be: Bill Agee, Eddie Wayne Agee, Danny Cates, Melvin Cates, Billy Collins, Dwayne Newby, Ken Prewitt and David York.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Gordon Cotton, Ryan Griggs, Randall Harvey, Wendell Harvey, Ricky Howard, Joe Masters, James Reed, Joe Reynolds, Russell Ross and Ernie Taylor.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in W. J.’s memory to Hospice Care Plus or the Alzheimer’s Association.

    Mrs. Lakes was born June 13, 1930, in Rockcastle County to James and Delia Johnson Abrams.
    She was retired from Brown & Williams Tobacco Company in Lexington. She was a faithful listener of the WLJC Gospel Broadcast and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

    Gary Lee Winburn, 69, of Richmond, passed away Monday, April 14, 2014, at the UK Medical Center in Lexington.
    A native of Richmond, Kentucky, he was the son of Marcus and Johnetta Arch Winburn, both of whom preceded him in death. Gary had been an employee of the former Begley Drug Company and was a retired employee of Car Quest Auto Parts Store. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Richmond.
