James Bailey Curry, 93

RICHMOND — James Bailey Curry, 93, of Moran Mill Road, widower of Wilma Jean Fowler Curry, passed away Monday, August 12, 2013, at Baptist Health-Richmond.

James was born December 2, 1919, in Valley View to the late James Sylvester and Martha Zella Johnson Curry.

He was a farmer and businessman who owned warehouses and land.

James was a member of the Richmond Masonic Lodge F&AM No. 25, the Oleika Shrine, the American Legion, the VFW and the Madison County Soil Conservation District. He was a University of Kentucky alumnus, a Kentucky Colonel and a U.S. Army veteran of WWII.

James is survived by: one son, James Dexter Curry; two daughters, Jill Curry Stinson (Eric), Patty Ann Curry (Bob Surette); and one brother, Harold T. Curry (Ledell), all of Richmond.

He also is survived by: two sisters, Vona Rowlette of Richmond and Nancy Turpin of Campbellsville, Ky.; three grandchildren, Kyle Stinson and Kelsey Stinson, both of Richmond, and Dr. Nathan (Kathy) Schwadron of Durham, New Hampshire.

Other survivors include: two great-granddaughters, Marina and Jane; a son-in-law, Dave Anderson; a sister-in-law, Anita Curry; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and grand dogs.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by: a daughter, Charlene Anderson; three brothers, Ovie Curry, Douglas Curry, Elmer Curry; two sisters, Virginia Curry Jenkins, Carol Brandenburg, and his dog and best friend Jack.

Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, August 16, 2013, at the Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with Bro. Butch Pennington officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery.

Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be: Bruce Begley, Kyle Stinson, Nathan Schwadron, Dave Gerrein, Jerome Tudor and Ronnie Moberly. Honorary pallbearers will be his caretakers: Betty Tussey, Wilma Carpenter, Sylvia Hale and Cheryl Hall, along with his neighbors, Carl Turner and Mary Ellen Broaddus.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
