Jennie Smith Rayburn, 94

BEREA — Jennie Smith Rayburn, 94, of Richmond, passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2013, in her home.

She was born, May 15, 1919, in Madison County, to Sam and Mary Osborne Smith, both of whom preceded her in death. She was the widow of Sam Rayburn.

Mrs. Rayburn retired from the Bluegrass Army Depot after 25 years of service and was a Navy veteran of WW II, serving from 1944-46. She was a member of Kirksville Christian Church, the Kirksville homemakers and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. She enjoyed her hobbies of reading and china painting.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dianna R. and Barry Gibson of Richmond, and one granddaughter, Megan Ashley Gibson.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by: one sister, Carrie Stubblefield; and three brothers, Woodrow Wilson Smith, William Carter Smith, and Roy Farmer Smith.

The service for Mrs. Rayburn will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, June 28, 2013, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with Rev. Martin B. Frazer and Dr. J. Donald Graham officiating.

Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Carl Turner, Bill Hagan, John Wilson, Dan Hale, Donald Roberts, Johnny Carnes and Gene Kelly.

Honorary bearers will be the Kirksville Homemakers.

Flowers are welcome, or donations may be made in her memory to Hospice Care Plus, 208 Kidd Drive, Berea, KY 40403.
