Jerry Gibbs, 66

ROTONDA, Fla. — Jerry Gibbs, 66, of Rotonda West, Florida, passed away June 9, 2013, after a short illness.

He was born March 24, 1947, in Richmond, Kentucky, to parents Hubert and Eula Gibbs.

Jerry retired from Lexmark/IBM in 1996 after 30 years of employment. In 1996, he and his wife, Pat, and their beloved golden retriever, Asia, moved to the Florida Keys to enjoy boating and fishing and the laid-back lifestyle of the Keys.

In 2001, they moved to southwest Florida, living in Naples, Fort Myers Beach and Rotonda West.

Jerry and Pat managed condominiums on Vanderbilt Beach in Naples from 2001 until their retirement in 2012, traveling to their home in Rotonda during the weekends.

Jerry was an avid reader, loved NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt Jr., the University of Louisville Cardinals, and anything having to do with the sea. He and Pat were Jimmy Buffett Parrot Heads, and both loved “Trop Rock” music.

He will be dearly missed by his wife, Pat; daughter, Amy Gibbs; grandson, Chance Rogers; mother, Eula (Billy) Johnson; sister, Sue (Tony) Byrd; brother, Stephen (Dorothy) Gibbs; mother-in-law, Kathryn Loy; brothers-in-law, David Loy and Mike (Lois) Loy; nieces, Melissa Byrd and Brittany Loy; great-niece, Marriah Eaton; three great-nephews, Tanner Eaton, Carson Stanifer and Trenton Byrd; and many friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Hubert Gibbs, his father-in-law, John Pat Loy, and his nephew, Brian Byrd.

Jerry was cremated, and he and Asia will be laid to rest in the water in the Florida Keys at a later date.
