RICHMOND — Frances Joy Edgington Barnes, Richmond, Ky., passed away peacefully on February 22, 2014.

She was born in Batesville, Arkansas, on November 12, 1936, to the late Rev. Manford Lee Edgington and Lydia Dipboye Edgington. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 47 years, Roscoe David Barnes; her son, Tim Custer; and sister, Hope Edgington Rogers.

She was a homemaker, attended the Linden Street Baptist Church and participated with the Richmond Rhythm Steppers.

She is survived by: her son, Rodney (Becky) of Frankfort, Ky., and daughter-in-law, Cindy Kunz of Massachusetts. Her three grandchildren, who survive her, were her greatest pride: Natalya Custer, Noah Barnes and Josh Barnes. Her surviving siblings are :Joanna Edgington Nelson, Montford Edgington, Manford Lee Edgington II, and Stewart Edgington. She is also survived by her dear friend and companion, John Sowder of Richmond.

Her memorial service is 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 26, 2014, at the Combs, Parsons and Collins Funeral Home, 328 W. Main St., with Rev. Michael Barnes officiating.

The family will receive friends and relatives beginning 11 a.m. Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Care Plus, 208 Kidd Drive, Berea, KY 40403, who provided dedicated and compassionate care for her and Roscoe in their final days.
