William E. ‘Billy’ Thomas, 85

Union City — William E. “Billy” Thomas, 85, of Union City, the husband of Nadine Million Thomas, passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2014, at his home.

Billy was born September 6, 1928, in Madison County, to the late Robert C. and Lura Oldham Thomas.

He was a graduate of Central High School and a charter member of the Union City Ruritan Club. Billy was a life-long farmer and a partner in Thomas Polled Herefords. He was a member of the Union City Christian Church. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife of 67 years, Mr. Thomas is survived by: his two sons, Ronnie M. Thomas (Earlene) and John E. Thomas (Sherry); three grandchildren, Eric Thomas (Leslie), Leah Eaton (Jim) and Lauren Cain (Tyler); six great-grandchildren, Jonathan Eaton, Parker Thomas, Will Cain, Kennedy Cain, Case Thomas and Laura Eaton; two sisters, Effie “Toots” Wells and Margaret Gatley; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, February 21, 2014, at the Union City Christian Church, 2473 Union City Road, with Bro. Chip Denief officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Pallbearers will be: Donnie Newman, Steve Newman, Jim Newman, Bob Shoptaw, Bill Wells, William Harris and Neil Parke.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Billy Ray Murphy, David Olds, Jim Dause, Frenus Masters, Sammy Griggs, Jimmy Allen, May Kirby, Harold Harris, Scott Parke, Jep Fortney, Cliff Winkler, and Gary Thomas.

The Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, 328 West Main Street, is in charge of arrangements.
