Josephine ‘Josie’ Cowan, 72

RICHMOND — Josephine “Josie” Cowan, 72, of Richmond, passed away Monday, February 10, 2014, at her home.

She was born October 27, 1941, in Leslie County, Ky., to the late James Monroe and Nola Vanover Wooton.

She was united in marriage April 27, 1963, to Mr. James “Pony” Cowan, and they enjoyed 50 years together. She was a retired inspector from Westinghouse/Philips Lighting and enjoyed crocheting, reading, needlepoint and spending time with her family. She was a member of the Eastside Community Church.

In addition to her husband, Josie is survived by: her son, James Barrett Cowan (Mary Beth); her daughter, Loretta Parke (Doug); one brother, Curtis Wooton; three sisters, Nannie Hornsby, Addie Pennington and Carrie Cornett; four grandchildren, Gary Cowan, Letitia Daugherty (Joey), Mallory Cowan and Jakob Cowan; four great-grandchildren, Sidney, Katelyn, Emily and Clara; as well as several nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her twin brother, Eugene Wooton, and two sisters, Betty Lou Morgan and Patty Wooton.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, February 14, 2014, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, 328 W. Main St., with Dr. Virgil Grant officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be: Doug Howard, Joey Daugherty, Andy Durbin, Pearl Pennington, Chris Cowan, Art Dunahue and Gary Cowan.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of her Sunday school class.
