Amel Evans, 90

BEREA — Amel Evans, age 90, of Oak Meadow Drive in Berea, passed away February 10, 2014, at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center.

Amel was born in Hazard, Ky., to the late Rev. and Essie Woods Evans.

He was a member of the Berea Church of Christ, owner of Evans Tire and Auto Care and a U.S. Army veteran of WWII.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three siblings.

He is survived by: his wife of more than 70 years, Ruby Napier Evans, five sons, Eddie (Elizabeth) Evans of Berea, Jim (Sandy) Evans of Somerset, Charlie (Delorise) Evans of Gilbertsville, Ky., David (Dorice) Evans of Richmond and Howard (Kelly) Evans of Berea. Two sisters, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive him.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lakes Funeral Home with Bro. Charles Moore and Bro. Jack Hall officiating. Burial with full military honors will take place 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Mill Springs National Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at Lakes Funeral Home.
