Della Ree Reynolds Johns, 93

RICHMOND — Della Ree Reynolds Johns, 93, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Thursday, February 6, 2014, at the Richmond Health & Rehab-Madison Manor.

Mrs. Johns was born February 4, 1921, in Madison County to the late Edward and Kate Short Reynolds.

She was a homemaker and former employee of the old Sweet Shop Restaurant in downtown Richmond. She was also a devoted member of the Faith Baptist Church.

Della Ree Johns was married to William Nelson Johns for more than 56 years, until his death in 2008.

Together they raised five children: Bobby (& Dale) Winkler of Aiken, South Carolina; Alice (& the late Roy) Whittamore of Richmond; the late Barbara (& the late Billy) Ingram of Richmond; Carolyn (& Cecil) Bingham of Richmond and Shirley (& Mike) Lowery of Berea. They also raised two special grandsons as their own children, Tim (& Kisha) Abshear of Berea and the late Thomas Abshear.

She is also survived by her brother, William (& the late Edith) Reynolds and preceded in death by her sister, Jewell Dean Lowery.

“Grannie Johns,” as everyone affectionately called her, leaves 20 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, 35 great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-grandchild, who was born the same day Mrs. Johns passed away, to carry on her love for life and family.

All who ever knew her will miss her dearly, yet smile every time they think of her and her silly, playful, yet very loving ways.

Gravesides services will be conducted 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 10, 2014, at the Madison County Memorial Gardens on Berea Road in Richmond with the Rev. Owen Moody officiating.

Pallbearers will include Bill Ingram, Bev Ingram, Gene Ison, Timothy Abshear, David Whittamore and Michael Gibbs.

The Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
