IRVINE — Clayberta Powell Gamble, 80, wife of K. Gamble, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 30, 2014, at the University of Kentucky Hospital on the 60th anniversary of her marriage to K. Gamble.

Born on May 16, 1933, in Irvine, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Clayburn and Lillie Rawlins Powell.

She was retired from the Madison County School system where she taught at the old Kirksville School from 1961 until 1988, prior to that she taught in the Estill County school system. She was a very active member of Unity Baptist Church, as well as being a member of the KEA, the Madison County Teachers Association and the Eastern Kentucky University Alumni Association. She was an avid UK basketball fan, an antique dealer and greatly enjoyed reading.

Survivors include: her husband, K. Gamble; one son, Steven Edward Gamble (Lisa); one grandson, Andrew Gamble (Aaron Cox); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Clayberta was preceded in death by seven sisters: Essie Abney, Dorothy King, Tressie Woolery, Lucille Alexander, Creasy B. Powell, Wanda Turpin and Lena Faye Winkler.

Funeral services are scheduled 1 p.m. Monday, February 3, 2014, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with Bro. Dennis Brewer officiating. Burial will follow in the West Irvine Cemetery in Irvine, Kentucky.    

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Monday at Oldham, Roberts & Powell.

Pallbearers will be Fred Dodd, Larry Morgan, Paul King, Chris Winkler, Denny Rose, Roger Bowles, Dan Woolery and Doug Woolery. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Clayberta’s Sunday school class.
