Katie Pippin Saylor, 101

BEREA — Katie Pippin Saylor, 101, died Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at the Terrace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Berea.

A native of East Stone Gap, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late John Bradley and Julia Sizemore Pippin, and the widow of Emanuel Saylor.

She was a graduate of Union College and taught at Loyall Elementary and Loyall High School. Her memberships include the Loyall Church of Christ, Madison County Retired Teachers Association and the Alumni Association of Union College.

Mrs. Saylor is survived by: her son, Ronald G. Saylor; and beloved friend, Mary Hudson of Berea; sisters, Evelyn Hornbeck of Louisville, Jane Clevinger of Summerville, S.C. ; grandchildren, Ginnifer Pippin Watts of Berea, Owens Garrison Saylor of Owensboro, Ky.; great-grandchildren, Carmen, Haley, Carleigh, Garrison, Hershey, Nathaniel, Stefanie; great-great grandchild, Camden; caregivers, Penny Abner, Elsie Baker, Irene Clark.

She was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Katy Saylor, and 10 siblings.

Funeral services for Mrs. Saylor will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Mt. Pleasant Funeral Home in Harlan, Kentucky, with Owens Garrison Saylor officiating. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of service. Burial will follow in the Resthaven Cemetery.
