Raymond Gibbons, 70

RICHMOND —

Raymond Farris Gibbons, 70, of Richmond, husband of Robbyn S. Gibbons, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, in the VA Hospice Center, Lexington, Ky.

Raymond was born Aug. 5, 1942, to the late Prentice R. Gibbons and Mary Farris Brutscher of Boston, Ky.

Mr. Gibbons was a proud veteran of the United States Army and United States  Marine Corp. He was the recipient of several  Marine Corp Honors and often volunteered his service to the local and state military posts. He pursued a life of service to his country and to others. Raymond was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the Eastern Star. As a proud American he gave of his time to the Devil Dogs (USMC), the Marine Corp League, the VFW, the DAV and the American Legion.

He was a volunteer of the Kentucky Rescue Association and worked with many organizations who assisted in the State Disaster Relief  Program. Friends and family knew him as a man of great resilience and strength in all that he did for others. Raymond was a 32nd Degree Mason serving at the No. 338 Waco Lodge, Waco. He was also a member of the No. 340 Jeffersonville Lodge, Jeffersonville, Ind. Mr. Gibbons loved the Lord and  was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Richmond.

Raymond is survived by Robbyn Gibbons, his beloved wife of forty-two year’s, a daughter, Amy Blevins, Lexington; his son, Timothy Gibbons, Richmond; and grandson, Grayson Gibbons; and brother-in-law, Ron (Donna) Baker, Byrdstown, Tenn.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his identical twin brother, Laymond Farris Gibbons, and half-brother, Alden Gibbons.

Private committal services will be conducted 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville. Full military honors will be performed by the Marine Honor Guard and the American Legion Post No. 8, Man-of-War Division of Lexington.
