Helen Maxine Jones, 85

RICHMOND — Helen Maxine Jones, 85, of Richmond, Ky., passed away after a sudden illness on Saturday, July 12, 2014, at Compassionate Care Center.

She was born February 2, 1929, in Madison County, Ky., the daughter of the late John B. and Bessie Parrish Jones. She was a graduate of Kirksville High School Class of 1947 and graduated from Eastern Ky. University, Class of 1951.

She was a retired teacher having taught home economics at Middlesboro High School in Middlesboro, Ky., and taught English while living in Ohio for a short time. She spent most of her career serving as Librarian at Tates Creek High School in Lexington, Ky., from which she retired.

She was a very good, loving caregiver to her mother before Mrs. Jones passed away. She enjoyed traveling, writing, singing and painting. She especially enjoyed singing with the Richmond Choral Society and playing bridge with her fellow school teachers.

Helen was a member of the Kirksville Baptist Church.    

She was preceded in death by four brothers, John O. Jones (Edna), Pierson Gentry Jones (Suda), Robert Jones (Florence), and Earl Dean Jones (Mary); two sisters, Mary Pillion Howell (Atlas) and Elizabeth Brock (Garland).

Survivors include: one sister, Margaret Katherine Wood (Woody) of Huntsville, Ala.; several nieces and nephews, Randy Jones of Columbus, Ohio, Tommy Fish (Debra) and David Howell, both of Huntsville, Ala., Robert Lee Jones of Lexington, Robin Jean Turner of Lawrenceburg, Roberta Brock Nolley (Don) of Tomball, Texas, Bernice Jenkins of Independence, Kan., Earl Dean Jones Jr., of Richmond and Patricia Shepard of Richmond; several great-nieces and nephews who were special to her. The little ones always brought a smile to her face and a twinkle in her eyes.

Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Bro. Bill Fort officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Fish, Earl Dean Jones Jr., Larry Wilson, Jeff Ardery, Jeff Ford and Jimmy Whitaker.

    William S. Scott, 93, of Richmond, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at Baptist Health Richmond.
    He was born December 14, 1921, in Bay Springs, Mississippi, to James and Sybil Thigpen Scott, both of whom preceded him in death. He also was preceded in death in 2009 by his wife, Virginia Webb Scott.

    Mrs. Jane E. Coffey, 93, of Richmond, Kentucky, and formerly of Spencer, Indiana, went to be with the Lord on July 30, 2014, at Baptist Health Richmond.
    In 2002, she moved to Richmond to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Jerrilyn and Jack Dyer. She lived in their home until mid 2010 before moving to the Kenwood Nursing Center. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, August 4, 2014, preceded by visitation at the West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home in Spencer, Indiana.

    Mr. Elkin was born November 25, 1925, in Berea, Ky., a son of the late T.J. and Dora Gentry Elkin. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Gayle S. Elkin; a brother, James Elkin; and sister, Elizabeth Seals.
