Irene Ray Stocker, 101

RICHMOND — Irene Ray Stocker, 101, passed away Sunday, August 11, 2013.

She was born Feb. 24, 1912, at Newby, Ky., the daughter of the late Lewis Wilbert and Sarah Elizabeth Whittaker Ray.

She graduated from Newby High School in 1931 and was a member of the Newby Baptist Church.

She married Elmer Ray Stocker in 1933, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 13, 2000. They were farmers, and Irene enjoyed being a homemaker and raising her family. She was an excellent cook, loved gardening and canning and raising flowers.

She was a salesperson for Blair Products for approximately 50 years. She truly loved selling because she enjoyed talking and being with people. She lived in the heart of Kirksville for nearly 30 years, and they operated a country store close to Kirksville for a short time.

She loved life, her family, friends and neighbors.

Survivors include: four children, Vernon Gipson Stocker (Joyce), Jean Bucher (Harold), Carlton Stocker (Lottie) and Darrell Stocker (Kathy), all of Madison County; 10 grandchildren, Donnie Stocker, Ray Stocker, Sherry Thiele, Beth Johnson, Shelly Stocker, Tim Stocker, Trina Robinson, Tara Bucher, Mark Stocker, Kim Stocker; 12 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Daisy Johnson and Allie Johnson.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 14, 2013, at Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Bro. Scott Guiley and Bro. Gary Maynard officiating. Burial will follow in Jones Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Ray Stocker, Tim Stocker, Mark Stocker, Wesley Stocker, Jordan Cruse, Logan Cruse, Dustin Sweet and Don Stocker.

Granddaughters and great-granddaughters will serve as honorary pallbearers.

    Mrs. Lakes was born June 13, 1930, in Rockcastle County to James and Delia Johnson Abrams.
    She was retired from Brown & Williams Tobacco Company in Lexington. She was a faithful listener of the WLJC Gospel Broadcast and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

  • Gary Lee Winburn, 69

    Gary Lee Winburn, 69, of Richmond, passed away Monday, April 14, 2014, at the UK Medical Center in Lexington.
    A native of Richmond, Kentucky, he was the son of Marcus and Johnetta Arch Winburn, both of whom preceded him in death. Gary had been an employee of the former Begley Drug Company and was a retired employee of Car Quest Auto Parts Store. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Richmond.
