John Clark “Doc” Pergrem, 81

Elkhorn City — John Clark “Doc” Pergrem, 81, of Elkhorn City, passed away on Nov. 6, 2012, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond.

Doc was born at Wheelwright in Floyd County on July 22, 1931. He was the son of the late Dr. Clark Bascum and Elizabeth Sizemore Pergrem.

He was a graduate of Hellier High School and served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was an operator and coal miner, having retired from Republic Steel.

While serving in the Air Force, he was stationed in England and he played basketball for the Air Force Basketball team throughout Europe. He also loved to play golf.

Doc is survived by his wife, Fayetta Ratliff Pergrem of Elkhorn City; a son, Clark Dale Pergrem (April) of Richmond; a daughter, Angela Pergrem Owens (Scott) of Richmond; five grandchildren, Christina, Madison, Hunter and Ryder Pergrem and Joseph Fleming.

He is predeceased by a son, Derek Pergrem, and a grandson, Clark Dale Pergrem II.

Visitation will be at Oldham, Roberts and Powell Chapel in Richmond on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. with services beginning at 7:30 p.m. conducted by Bill Fort.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Bailey Funeral Home in Elkhorn City on Friday at 2 p.m. with Jim Belcher officiating. Burial will follow in the Wilson Cemetery in Elkhorn City.
