Roy Johnson, 94

Formerly of Richmond

RICHMOND — Roy Johnson of Lee County, Va., was born in Richmond, Ky., on Wednesday, September 4, 1918, and went to meet the Lord on Sunday, March 10, 2013, at the Mountain View Hospital in Norton, Va., at the age of 94 years.

Roy was a farmer by trade and was a member of the Corinth Christian Church in Richmond, Ky.

He was preceded in death by: his wife of 69 years, Lora Moberly Johnson; one daughter, Loretta Marie Johnson, and one infant son, Douglas Johnson; his parents, Mallie Winkler Johnson and Irvine (Jack) Johnson; his sister and brother-in-law, Lear and Reed Fortner.

He is survived by: three daughters, Betty Spears and husband Jack of Pennington Gap, Va., Brenda Johnson of Ocoonita, Va., and Carolyn Blanton and husband David of Shelbyville, Ky.; two sons, Harold Johnson and wife Pam of Shelbyville, Ky., and Roy Glenn and wife Barbara of Ocoonita, Va.

He also is survived by 26 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren. Several great great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

A visitation will be conducted from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2013, in the Province Funeral Home Sanctuary of Pennington Gap, Va.

Mr. Johnson will be taken to Oldham, Roberts and Powell Funeral Home in Richmond, Ky., where the family will receive friends on Sunday, March 17, 2013, from 4 p.m.. until 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 18, 2013, at the Oldham, Roberts and Powell Funeral Home in Richmond, with Paul Davis Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Flatwoods Cemetery of Waco.

    Mrs. Ethel Abrams Lakes, 84, of Richmond, passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at the Compassionate Care Center.
    Mrs. Lakes was born June 13, 1930, in Rockcastle County to James and Delia Johnson Abrams.
    She was retired from Brown & Williams Tobacco Company in Lexington. She was a faithful listener of the WLJC Gospel Broadcast and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

    Mrs. Hardy was born November 12, 1912, in Valley View, Kentucky. She was a homemaker, a retired seamstress and was of the Baptist faith.

    Gary Lee Winburn, 69, of Richmond, passed away Monday, April 14, 2014, at the UK Medical Center in Lexington.
    A native of Richmond, Kentucky, he was the son of Marcus and Johnetta Arch Winburn, both of whom preceded him in death. Gary had been an employee of the former Begley Drug Company and was a retired employee of Car Quest Auto Parts Store. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Richmond.
