James K. “Jim” Speller, 73

RICHMOND — James K. “Jim” Speller, 73, passed away June 27, 2013, at University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington. He was the husband of Brenda Rhodus Speller.

Jim was born September 18, 1939, in Bertie County, N.C., to the late Thomas F. and Marguerite Lawrence Speller.

He was an industrial arts teacher for the Fayette County School System. He received his bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and his Rank 1 from Eastern Kentucky University. He was also a retired United States Air Force master sergeant, Vietnam veteran and member of the Anchor Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife Brenda, he is survived by: two sons, Ted (Kristi) Speller of Bloomington, Ill., Tim (Christy) Speller of Richmond, Ky.; one brother, Elton (Martha) Speller of League City, Texas; a brother-in-law, Harry (Donna) Rhodus of Lexington, Ky., and six grandchildren, Megan Speller, Ryan Speller, Stephanie Speller, Ben Morin, Sophia Speller and Reece Speller. He is also survived by nieces and nephews Kevin Speller, Karen S. Cockrill, Benjie Rhodus, Tami Rhodus and Josh Teater.

Funeral services for Jim will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, July 1, 2013, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Sowders and Rev. Ron Porter officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Bob Wigand, Ken Bicknell, Glenn Cox, Harry Rhodus, Reagan Taylor and Jeff Brashears. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Aubrey Spivey, Thomas Byrum, Paul Lane, Herb Kempf and Bill Tillett.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 30, 2013, at the Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home.

Flowers are welcome, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to Anchor Baptist Church P.O. Box 1794, Richmond, KY 40476.
