Shirley Wilson, 78

Formerly of Berea — Mother, sister, daughter, grandmother, aunt, wife, friend, lover of life and Christian. These are the words that best describe Shirley Rose Wilson who passed from this world on Thursday, November 15, 2012.

Shirley was born September 29, 1934, in Berea, Ky., and was the daughter of the late Dewey and Lillie Rose of Berea.

Shirley was best known for her love of people and her family. Her life was her family and being with them was her greatest joy and desire. Her youthful outlook on life and vibrant personality attracted people to her wherever she went.

Shirley worked for many years at the Turfland Mall McAlpin’s and was a member of Southland Christian Church. She wanted everyone to know about the love she had for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Shirley was also an avid UK fan who attended many UK, SEC and NCAA tournament games.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, her husband, Paul Wilson, a sister in law and several brothers in law.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving sons: Michael (Laurie) Wilson, of Cincinnati, Ohio, Mic (Joan) Wilson, of Charlottesville, Va.; her loving daughter, Mona (David) Bond, of Lexington; her beloved grandchildren: Tanner Bond, Teddy Wilson, McKenzie Bond, Dane Wilson and Skyler Wilson; her faithful sister, Barbara (Dick) Evans; and special sisters-in-law: Jean Marsh, Sarah Riley, Fern Botkin and Ann Wilson.

The family would like to extend their thanks to some special friends of Shirley’s for their never failing love and support: Cindy Hargett, Hope Ann Lowe, Nancy Clique and Johnny Martin. Also, thank you to the staff and patients at Richmond Place for their loving care and friendship these past few years.

A celebration of Shirley’s life will take place on Sunday evening, November 18, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home on Harrodsburg Road, Lexington, from 5 to 8 p.m. The funeral will take place on Monday morning, November 19, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Madison Memorial Gardens in Richmond immediately following the service.

Pallbearers for her funeral will be her grandsons and her nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to Southland Christian Church, Richmond Road Building Fund, c/o Southland Christian Church, P.O. Box 23338, Lexington, KY 40523.
