Margaret Marie King, 86

RICHMOND — Margaret Marie King, 86, of Mt. Sterling, formerly of Richmond, passed away Monday, April 8, 2013, in her home.

Margaret was born on October 2, 1926, in Madison County, Ky, to the late Arthur and Roxie Anglin Foster.

She was a homemaker who loved her family with an unconditional love. She raised her four sons as a unit and taught them how to be patient and kind, and instilled traits of honesty and fairness.

She was an excellent cook. One favorable dish was her chicken and dumplings, and the stories of her favorite chickens that made those meals special.

Her sister Katherine and she entertained at Renfro Valley as the “Foster Sisters.” She enjoyed listening to and singing while her family played music. She had a special attachment with her animals.

She also attended the First Baptist Church of Mt. Sterling, and was a member of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels. Margaret was the absolute definition of a “Lady” and a true “Southern Belle.”

She is survived by: her four sons, Allen D. Sams (Linda), Jerry L. Sams, Bernie W. Sams (Karen) and Leslie “Rocky” King (Pamela); two step-daughters, Rose E. Alexander and Lena Burden; seven grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her husband, Leslie King; one brother, Charles Jack Foster; and her sister, Virginia Katherine Foster Green.

Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m., Friday, April 12, 2013, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, 328 W. Main St., Richmond, with Rev. John D. Cravens officiating. Burial will follow in the Flatwoods Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be: Chris Byrd, Jesse Byrd, Harold Peffer, Mathau Peffer, Orville Shanks, and Glen Cathcart. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Foster and Jackie Foster.

The Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
