BEREA — Lou Tishia Helton Powell, 72, of Berea, died Friday, March 21, 2014, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond.
She was born in Garrard County to the late William Helton and Cynthia Belcher Helton Croucher.
She was a member of the Galilee Baptist Church and worked as a caregiver for the Veterans Administration for over 35 years.
Mrs. Powell is survived by: her sisters, Janie (Robert) Lake of Berea, Etta (Roscoe) Asher of Bledsoe, Ky., Edna (B.J.) Johnson of London, Ky.; her brothers, Bill Helton Jr. of Eauclaire, Michigan, C. Robert Helton (Rebecca) of Richmond; three nephews she called “her boys,” John Helton Jr. of Berea, Roscoe Asher of Asher, Ky., Wayne Asher of Bledsoe, Ky.; several great-nieces and nephews; special friend, Faye Stagner; caregiver, Mary McFerron.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Chester Powell; a sister, Rose Peters; brothers John Helton Sr. and Bobby Helton; sisters-in-law Diana Helton and Sheila Helton.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Davis & Powell Funeral Home with Bro. Greg Lakes, Rev. Roscoe Asher and Bro. Lee Abney officiating. Burial will be in the Berea Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be her nephews, Ronnie Peters, John Helton Jr., Randy Lake, Rodney Lake, Wayne Asher, Bill Helton Jr., Benny William Johnson and Darrell Peters. Honorary pallbearers will be her nieces, Kristy Little, Becky Ellen Miller, Donna Farr, Rhonda Reeves, Debbie Davis, Tisha Thompson, Laura Helton Adams, Martha Johnson and Scarlett Marks.
