RICHMOND — Ethel Lucena Ray Denny, 96, was born on January 16, 1917, and passed away in her home on January 25, 2013.

She was the widow of John Louis Denny Sr.

Ethel and John married January 20, 1939 at an old home on the old Battlefield in Madison County, Ky.

Ethel was born the daughter of Harrison Chester and Ethel Ray in Phoebus, Virginia.

She was a caregiver for many years and then devoted her time to being a homemaker.

Ethel was an accomplished oil painter. Her paintings won awards and were recognized at various events. She loved her family and enjoyed story telling.

Ethel was a charter member of Harris Memorial Baptist church in Madison County, Ky. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Colonial Dames of America.

In addition to her husband, John Louis Denny Sr., she is preceded in death by: her parents, H.C and Ethel Ray; two daughters, Rebecca Denny McIntosh (Darvis), Anita Denny Money; four grandchildren, Darvis McIntosh Jr., Tommy McIntosh, James Money and Johnny Charles Denny; three sisters, Edith Jane Ray Awe, Ollie Marie Hubbard Blagrave and Dorothy Lee Ray Romero; two brothers, William “Billy” Harrison Ray and Charles Warren Ray.

Survivors include: her two sons, David Michael Denny, (Patty), John Louis Denny Jr.; son-in-law Jimmy Money; 23 grandchildren, Mrs. Dianne Mcintosh (widow of Darvis), Johnny Mcintosh (Peggy), Joe McIntosh, Becky Coyle (Larry), Janet Fritz (John), Wayne Davis (Patty), Speedy Denny (Marsha), Sandi Clinger (Tim), John Louis Denny III, Steven Denny, Sue Farthing, Tammy Sebring (Tim), Michelle Brown (Jody), Bridgett Webb(Jason), David Denny Jr. (Billie Jean), Shane Denny, Michael Denny, Monica Ward (Jason), Tommy Denny and Lacey Mae Denny; 39 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Adonis Estepp and Virginia Deane Hubbard; one brother, Kenneth Hocker; and several nieces and nephews, along with several special friends.

Services for Mrs. Denny will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home. Bro. Earl Van Winkle and Bro. Jimmy Ashcraft Jr. will officiate.

Burial will follow in the McIntosh-Denny Family Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be David Michael Denny Jr., Christopher Shane Denny, James Michael Denny, Tommy Brian Michael Denny, “Speedy” Denny, John Louis Denny III, Tyler Money and Johnny Richard McIntosh.

Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Monday at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home
