Parsons, W. Va. — Dr. John William Chambers, 83, of Parsons, W.Va., departed this life on June 22, 2013, at his home.

He was born Nov. 7, 1929 in Richmond, Ky., son of the late Clarence and Catherine Griggs Chambers. He was the widower of Nancy Caroline Allen and was preceded in death by a sister, Pat Carr.

Dr. Chambers was a graduate of Model High School, Class of 1946. He graduated from Eastern Kentucky University and earned his Ph.D. in Pharmacology at Vanderbilt University. He taught at the Medical College of Virginia and retired from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine.

Survivors include: two sons, Michael Chambers (Leah Ritchie), of Lynnfield, Mass., and Matthew Chambers (Maggie), of Parsons, W.Va.; two sisters, Marietta McBride (Edgar), of Richmond and Martha Harris (Bill), of Eugene, Ore.; two brothers, Charles (Donna) Chambers and Donald Chambers, of Richmond; nine grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and their descendants.

Graveside services will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday, August 4, 2013, in the Richmond Cemetery. Interment will follow on Monday.
