William Rutledge ‘Rusty’ Sowers, 86

RICHMOND — William Rutledge “Rusty” Sowers, 86, of Richmond, passed away Thursday, August 22, 2013, at Baptist Health-Richmond.

He was born February 10, 1927, in Madison County, a son of William S. and Lillie Durbin Sowers, both of whom preceded him in death.

He was a retired farmer, a driver and salesman and an Army veteran of WWII. He was a member of Tates Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include: his wife, Jenimarie Richards Sowers of Richmond; and four daughters, Janice Sowers Hendricks, Anne S. Congleton, Tammy Gay (Greg) and Jennifer “Nanook” Inman (Kip), all of Richmond. He was the oldest of eight children, leaving three brothers, Tommy, Donald “Slick” and Ronald “Doodle” Sowers; and four sisters, Ann Barnes, Lena Barnes, Nannie B. House and Wanda Faye Young.

He also leaves 10 grandchildren, Jenny Sargent (Dennis), Christy Didion, Amy Burrus (Ronald), Jeremy Hendricks (Heidi), Kelby Congleton, Amanda Gay, Dottie Haney-Watts (Wes), Sara Haney, Alex Inman, and Nick Inman; 14 great-grandchildren, Chasity Thomas, Kiyara Thomas, Branden Sargent, Rebekah Sargent, Michael Robbins, Taylor Holleran, Jayden Burrus, Rayna Burrus, Emma Grayce Gay, Syrena Hendricks, Madison Estes, Tristan Estes, Micah Haney and Landen Watts” and his “dawg,” Marvin.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: three grandchildren, Crystal Estes, Ashley Estes and Regina Gay Thomas; and two sons-in-law, Wayne Hendricks and Walter Congleton.

Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, August 26, 2013, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home, with Bro. Jerry Huffman officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery with military honors.

Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers and honorary bearers.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time on Monday at the funeral home.

    Mrs. Lakes was born June 13, 1930, in Rockcastle County to James and Delia Johnson Abrams.
    She was retired from Brown & Williams Tobacco Company in Lexington. She was a faithful listener of the WLJC Gospel Broadcast and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

    Gary Lee Winburn, 69, of Richmond, passed away Monday, April 14, 2014, at the UK Medical Center in Lexington.
    A native of Richmond, Kentucky, he was the son of Marcus and Johnetta Arch Winburn, both of whom preceded him in death. Gary had been an employee of the former Begley Drug Company and was a retired employee of Car Quest Auto Parts Store. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Richmond.
