Brownie Lee James Jr., 68


MADISON COUNTY — Brownie Lee James Jr., 68, of Richmond, passed away Thursday, January 2, 2014, at the VA Hospital in Lexington.

Mr. James was born April 5, 1945, in Madison County to the late Brownie Sr. and Minnie Holland James.

He was a 1963 graduate of Madison Central High School. Along with being an avid UK Basketball and Cincinnati Reds fan, he also enjoyed fishing. Mr. James was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served his country during the Vietnam War.

Brownie is survived by: his wife of 27 years, Helen Wilson James; two sons, David James (Charleen) of Berea, Anthony James (Miranda) of Richmond; one daughter, Denise Renfro (James) of Berea; one stepdaughter, Sharmon Young (Paul) of Stanford; one stepson, Dale Saylor of Somerset; one brother, Bobby James (Madrue) of Richmond; one sister, Barbara Gross of Richmond; two nephews, Jerry Glenn Gross of Lexington, Timmy Gross (Melissa) of Richmond; five grandchildren, Jessica Anglin (Trinity), Kevin Causey (Cyndi), BJ James (Kristen), all of Berea, Kasey Johnson (Robert), and Jaylin James, both of Richmond; seven great-grandchildren, Jaeleahk Goff, Cheyenne Anglin, Mason James, Isabella Causey, Christian McCarty, Kaydence Johnson and Carter Johnson; as well as several step-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by: a grandson, James Donavon Renfro; a sister, Peggy James; and a brother-in-law, Jerry Gross.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:30 p.m. Monday, January 6, 2014, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Todd officiating.

Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be: David Scott James, David Benjamin James, James Renfro, Jerry Glenn Gross, Timmy Gross and Trinity Anglin.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Irvin Whicker, Bobby Mason and Jimmy Rhodus.
