Orange County, California — Steve Abrams, age 53, son of Robert C. and Anne Abrams of Berea, died Sunday, April 14, 2013, in Orange County, California.

Steve held a Ph.D in information and computer sciences from the University of California at Irvine, as well as master of science degrees from UC-Irvine in information and computer sciences and in communications information and computer sciences, both in 2004. He also earned a master of arts in communication, and culture and technology from Georgetown University, 2003. He earned a bachelor of science in physics from the University in 1985.

Steve worked as a postdoctoral researcher in informatics for the University of California at Irvine. He was a technology “Geek” and loved the latest electronic gadgets. 

Steve is survived by his mother, Anne Abrams of Berea; an uncle, W.R. (Bobby) Collins of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; cousins Andy R. (Laura) Collins of Dickeyville, Wisc., Patricia (Sam Padgham) of Temple, Texas.; current and former friends and co-workers from the Univ. California at Irvine.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Clinton and Lillian Abrams and James and Hazel Collins, and his father, Robert Abrams, who died Friday, April 19, 2013, in Berea, where joint funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at Lakes Funeral Home with visitation from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., also on Tuesday.

Honorary pallbearers will be former coworkers at UC-Irvine, Gloria Mark, Matt Bietz, Andre van der Hoek, David Redmiles, Judy and Gary Olson and the Dept. of Informatics.
