Jack Lawrence Cornett, 78

Richmond

RICHMOND — Jack Lawrence Cornette, 78, of Richmond, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2013.

Jack enriched the lives of many family and friends even as he battled various health related obstacles in the latter stages of his life. He was surrounded by the love of family members as he passed away at the Compassionate Care Center of Richmond.

Born on February 18, 1935, in Inez to the late Luther and Icle (Neely) Cornette, Jack was the eldest of four children.

Jack was blessed to have found and married the love of his life, the late Janet Cline Cornette. The two shared a long, happy marriage, raising three children.

Jack was a retired educator who served in the roles of teacher, counselor and principal in both Carter and Martin counties. Jack was a devoted husband and father who enjoyed time with family, travel, and fishing. He was an avid, life-long UK Basketball fan.

Jack was preceded in death by: his wife, Janet; and his parents, Luther and Icle Cornette; and sister, Ada Sue Register.

Jack is survived by: his three children, Greg (Devera) Cornette of Lovely, Ky.; Pamela Cornette of Richmond, Ky.; and Mark (Shannon) Cornette of Richmond, Ky.; five grandchildren, Tara Beth (Jim) Goble of Grayson, Ky.; Daniel (Courtney) Cornette of Grayson, Ky.; Madison, Emory and Jack Silas Cornette, all of Richmond, Ky.; and two great-grandchildren, Tessa Hope and Jenna Leigh Goble, both of Grayson, Ky. He also is survived by two brothers: John (Linda) Cornette of Gahanna, Ohio; and Lincoln (Dianna) Cornette of Oviedo, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Monday, April 15, 2013, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home in Inez, Ky., with service to follow on Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at 1 p.m., also at the Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home with Ed Caudill officiating. Burial will follow in the Cline Cemetery of Inez, Ky.

Pallbearers will be: Emory Cornette, Ryan Preece, John Larry Cline Jr., Marty Castle, Jim Goble, Scott Sexton, Channing Smith and Steve Goble. Honorary pallbearers will be: Larry Cline and Ronnie Sexton. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Compassionate Care Center, 350 Isaacs Lane, Richmond, KY 40475.

Arrangments are under the direction of the Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home of Inez, Kentucky.

    Gary Lee Winburn, 69, of Richmond, passed away Monday, April 14, 2014, at the UK Medical Center in Lexington.
    A native of Richmond, Kentucky, he was the son of Marcus and Johnetta Arch Winburn, both of whom preceded him in death. Gary had been an employee of the former Begley Drug Company and was a retired employee of Car Quest Auto Parts Store. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Richmond.

    Joyce Rhodus, 74, passed away Friday morning, April 11, 2014, at her home.
    She was born March 23, 1940, in Garrard County, Kentucky, to the late Jasper and Mary Stella Moore Prewitt.
    Joyce was a graduate of Buckeye High School, class of 1959. She retired from the Madison County Detention Center as a deputy jailer. She loved raising flowers, working puzzles and watching UK basketball.
