Freddie Nelson McCreary, 61, husband of Gail Crowe McCreary, died early Sunday, November 4, 2012, in the St. Joseph Berea hospital.

Mr. McCreary was born June 24, 1951, in Madison County, Ky., the son of the late Fred S. and Nancy Gilliam McCreary.

He retired as a captain after serving on the Madison County Fire Department for 25 years. He also owned and operated heavy equipment for a number of years. Mr. McCreary loved being outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed being surrounded by his many close friends and family and had a very special love for his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by: two daughters, Stephanie Martin (Edward), Lexington, and Brandi Estep (Michael), Waco; a stepson, Michael Anderson (Lisa); a stepdaughter, Angela Bradley; two sisters, Betty Becknell (Kenneth), Richmond, and Lois Jones (Kenneth), Waco;  two brothers, Jimmy McCreary (Bo), Irvine, and Gale McCreary (Nettie), Waco; five grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by one brother, William Douglas McCreary.

Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 7, 2012, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Bobby Hood officiating. Burial will follow in the Flatwoods Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Tim Gray, Jerome Isaacs, Robert Murphy, Rodney Dixon, Jimmy D. McCreary and Jeff McCreary.
