RICHMOND — Shelby Hugh Lawson, 80, of Richmond, passed away Saturday evening, November 16, 2013 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
He was born June 20, 1933, in Richmond, Kentucky to James and Hester (Jones) Lawson, both of whom preceded him in death. Shelby was a sheet metal mechanic and worked for Thompson Engineering Company of Lexington before becoming self employed. He was a master at his craft that could make anything out of metal.
Shelby was a member of Faith Baptist Church of Richmond and a dedicated family man who loved and enjoyed his family.
Survivors include his wife, Iva Dale (Powell) Lawson; one daughter, Kathy L. Shew (and Gil); one son, David Lawson (and Pam); one sister Vern Powell; and one brother, William "Bill" Lawson, all of Richmond.
He also leaves four grandchildren, Chris Lawson (and Hope), Brooke Lawson, Melissa Shew Toutant (and Chris) and Amelia Shew; three great-grandchildren, Laney Lawson, Christian Lawson, and Abby Toutant; two step-grandchildren, Michaela and Skylar Roll; his talking parrot, "Roscoe" and his Calico cat, "Waldo".
Funeral services for Mr. Lawson will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 20, 2013, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home. Rev. Owen Moody will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Madison County Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be David Lawson, Gil Shew, Chris Lawson, Chris Toutant, Bradley Trinh and Tommy Lawson.
