Catherine Phelps Combs, 86
Catherine Phelps Combs, 86, passed away Tuesday morning, December 2, 2008.
Mrs. Combs was born June 5, 1922, in Madison County, the daughter of the late Ben and Hannah Blunschi Phelps. She was retired from Eastern Kentucky University, and was the longest-serving member of The Big Hill Avenue Christian Church.
Survivors include: her husband of 58 years, Edward Russell “Ed” Combs; two daughters, Deborah Lainhart (Aaron) of Richmond and Kathy Bowling (Billy) of Kirksville; two sisters, Ida Marie Newlan of Mason, Ohio, and Evelyn Christine “Sibby” Kirby (Mae) of Richmond; four grandchildren, Evan Scott Lainhart, Amy Kathleen Arnold (Kristoffer), Erin Kristine Zachary (Justin) and Russell Layton Bowling (Jane); four great-grandchildren, Christian Ty Zachary, Kole Douglas Arnold, Jack Layton Bowling and Maecy Katherine Arnold; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: two brothers, Lex Phelps and Billy Joe Phelps; and one sister, Antonia Wills.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Bro. Mark Pearson and Bro. Jim Riggs officiating. Burial will follow in Richmond Cemetery.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Evan Lainhart, Russell Bowling, Kristoffer Arnold, Justin Zachary, Bill Phelps, Chan Combs and Danny Isaacs. Honorary pallbearers will be: The Deacons and Elders of The Big Hill Avenue Christian Church.
