George “Bill” Robbins, 73

George William “Bill” Robbins, 73, of Southland Drive, passed away Thursday morning in UK Chandler Medical Center in Lexington.

Mr. Robbins was born May 18, 1935, in Madison County, the son of the late George C. and Clara Clem Robbins. He was an attorney, local businessman, and the co-owner of WCBR Radio Station. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Richmond and Fairway Christian Church, The Villages, Fla.

He attended school at Model and was a graduate of the Kentucky Military Institute at Millersburg. He was a student at Eastern Kentucky University and received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Louisville and his Jurist Doctorate Degree from the University of Louisville School of Law. He practiced law with his father and two brothers before being elected Madison County Attorney in 1965. In 1977, he was elected to the newly created position of District Judge. He later served as Madison County Judge-Executive and as a Richmond City Commissioner. In recent years he had practiced law with his youngest son.

He was preceded in death by: his first wife, Betsy Marcum Robbins; and two brothers, Hugh Francis Robbins and Steven Wallace Robbins.

Survivors include: his wife, Dell S. Robbins; two sons, George H. Robbins (Sherrie) and Marc Robbins (Lisa); one daughter, Clarabeth Robbins Bennett (Gary); two stepsons, Eric Thomas (Christy) and Jason Thomas (Lana); one sister, Ida Sue Logsdon; seven grandchildren, William Bradley Bennett (Meghan), Bryan Lee Bennett (Mackenzie), Katelyn Elizabeth Robbins, Matthew Marcum Robbins, Ashley Renee Robbins, Emily Christine Robbins and Molly Katherine Baker Robbins; three great-grandchildren, Carson Bradley Bennett, Cordell Thomas Hill and Caleb Bryan Bennett; three stepgreat-grandchildren, Kaylee and Lauren Thomas and Trevor Griffith; and several special cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Fort and the Rev. Owen Moody officiating. Burial will follow in Richmond Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be Robert Bellamy, David Humes, Gilbert Miller, Dr. Hanley Funderburk, Dr. James C. Murphy, Fred Engle, Raymond Anderson, Troy Thompson and Jack Worth.

Honorary pallbearers will be Judge James S. Chenault, William Strong, Robert Russell and Calvin Lynch.

Donations may be made to: the building fund of the First Baptist Church.
