Estell Earl Harris, 77, of Louisville, passed to his heavenly Father on Monday, July 14, 2008, at Baptist Hospital East after a brief illness.
He was a Madison County, Ky., native, born April 25, 1931, to William Ballard Harris and Ruth Earlene Gadd Harris of Berea, Ky. He was a retired employee of General Electric Company, having worked there for 35 years. After retirement, he and his wife had lived in Scottsville, Ky., where they were instrumental in the construction of the new Berean Independent Baptist Church on 31W in Scottsville, Ky., having returned to Louisville in 2001. He was a member of South Louisville Christian Church and most recently attended Fairdale Christian Church. He was a member of Suburban Masonic Lodge #740 and I.U.E. Local 761.
He was preceded in death by: his son, Roger Dale Harris; his father, William Ballard Harris; his mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Motley; and brothers, William Ballard II and Cecil Burton Harris.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, the former Wanda Joyce McGeorge; a daughter, Carolyn Hawkins of Southwest, Fla.; and a grandson, Jonathan C. Hawkins, of Southwest, Fla.; two brothers-in-law, Donald W. and Martin McGeorge; one sister-in-law, Phyllis Ann Vermillion of Tennessee; one aunt, Mrs. Ada Harris of Evansville, Ind.; four nephews; and nine cousins.
His funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at J.E. Ratterman & Son, 7336 Southside Drive, with a Graveside Service at 2 p.m. Saturday at Johnson Cemetery on Short-Line Pike in Berea, Ky., with burial to follow.
