Mary Cain Wilson, widow of Raymond A. Wilson, and a lifelong resident of Madison County, departed this life Friday, May 9, 2008. Mary was born May 16, 1915, and was a member of the Berea Church of God and a faithful follower of Jesus Christ. She loved the word of God and leaves behind her Bible, with its worn and well-marked passages of encouragement and devotion.
She is survived by: her sisters, Sarah Cain Eaton, Joyce Cain Johnson, Opal Cain McClure, all of Berea, and Lizzie Cain Harrison of Hamilton, Ohio; her sister-in-law, Jean Cain of Berea; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mary was the beloved daughter and the first of 10 children born to James Marion and Lottie Powell Cain. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by: her stepdaughter, Ann Wilson Wells; her adopted son, Ray Wilson; her sisters, Betty Cain Harris, Oma Cain Durham, Jurene Cain Burdette, Marcella Cain Hembree; her brother, Bart Cain; and two halfbrothers, Malcolm and Logan Cain.
Mary was an employee of Berea College, where she worked in the candy kitchen. After its close in 1970, she went into the baking business for herself and spent many years preparing special occasion cakes. Her wedding gift to many of her nieces and nephews was her famous multi-tiered cake. Mary’s faith and loyalty to her family will long be remembered by those she leaves behind.
Services for Mrs. Mary Wilson will be conducted Monday, May 12, 2008, at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Stephen Hobbs at Lakes Funeral Home and preceded by visitation from noon until 2 p.m. Burial will be in the Berea Cemetery.
