Hannah Meagan Landers, 17

Hannah Meagan Landers, 17, was a native of Charlotte, N.C., who along with her parents and sister relocated to Lexington, Ky., in 2000.

She is survived by: a loving family: parents, Richard and Michelle Landers; sister, Emma Grace Landers; paternal grandparents, Harold and Bonnie Landers of Somerset, Ky.; maternal grandparents, Robert and Rita Coulter of Stanford, Ky.; Uncle Mike and Aunt Lezli Edwards of Stanford, Ky., Uncle Chris and Aunt Kristen Landers of Olive Branch, Miss.; and cousins, Kathryn Blair, Matthew Blair, Trey Edwards, Kailey Landers, Zach Landers, Gabe Landers and Gracen Landers.

Hannah attended Beaumont Middle School where she was active in STLP and track. She was a current senior at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School where she was active with the Memorial Garden, Newspaper Staff, Dunbar Radio Station, Speech Team, and earned a Quill & Scroll Award from the National Honorary Society for High School Journalists. She was awarded a Dean’s Scholarship at Queens University in Charlotte, N.C., where she intended to major in English as a second language, international studies, and a minor in photojournalism. She worked as a hostess at Ramsey’s Restaurant at the Harrodsburg Road location. Hannah also served at the High Street Neighborhood Center (through Dunbar’s Community Service Program) where she enjoyed caring for preschoolers. In 2007, she served as a Summer Intern with the Children Ministries of First Baptist Church in Richmond, Ky., and was scheduled this summer to be an intern with Kentucky Employers’ Mutual Insurance.

In her spare time she enjoyed being with her friends, drawing, painting, pottery, singing, music, reading, fast-pitch softball, photography, jewelry collecting and shopping. Hannah’s goal in life was to help make the world better and fair, and to that end she made arrangements prior to her death to be an organ donor. She was an avid supporter of Passport International, which through Youth Ministry of Calvary Baptist Church, provided her the opportunity to serve on mission in Kenya in the Summer of 2007.

Services are scheduled at Calvary Baptist Church Fellowship Hall & ROC. Visitation has been scheduled for Friday, May 9, 2008, from 3 to 7 p.m. and a Celebration of Life Service for Saturday, May 10, 2008, at 1 p.m., with visitation beginning on Saturday at noon until the time of the service.

Honorary pallbearers are all of her cousins, special friends Aaron McKee and John Dail, and the Dunbar Class of 2008. Hannah’s ashes will be scattered around the world sometime in the future.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to direct memorials to: the Hannah Fund at Calvary Baptist Church, 150 East High Street, Lexington, KY 40507; or to the Hannah Fund at First Baptist Church, 425 Eastern Bypass, Richmond, KY 40475.
