Betty “Granny” King, 97

Betty “Granny” King, 97, of Garrad County, died in Christian Care Center, May 7, 2008.
She was born June 21, 1910, in Garrard County, the daughter of Willie and Fairie McLear Masters. She was a retired factory worker and member of Lancaster Nazarene Church.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Johnny Lee King, Sr.; a daughter, Opal King; brothers, Lelford Masters, Hubert Masters and Harland Masters; and sisters, Mary Robinson, Opal Vanstory, Naltie Browning and Jewell Frazier.
She is survived by: sons, Gordon King (Sally) of Stanford, and Johnny Lee King, Jr., of Lancaster; daughter, Thelma Jewell (James) of Austin, Ind.; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday, May 9, 2008, at Spurlin Funeral Home with the Rev. Daryl Hodge officiating. Burial will be in Manse Cemetery. Visitation was Thursday evening.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Whitaker, Jimmy Cox, Terry Masters, Adrian Masters, Keith Masters, O’Neal Murphy, Brian Baker and Mike Pruett. Honorary bearers will be Lucille Murphy, Shelby Fathergill, Ruby Fathergill, Charles Yates, Virginia Black, Glenna Metcalf, Joshua King, Travis King, Robert Castle and Thomas Begley.
Spurlin Funeral Home of Lancaster is in charge of arrangements.
