GOLF: Nowlin, Neal shine at Hurricane Junior Golf Tour event

RICHMOND — Madison Central golfers Tristyn Nowlin and Mackenzie Neal got off to great starts on the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour last weekend.

Nowlin ran away from the field, winning the 15-18 age division of the Hurricane Tour Shop Series event in Indian Springs, Ohio by 11 strokes over her nearest competitor.

Neal placed second in the 11-14 age division, shooting rounds of 81 and 82 for a two-day total 163, five strokes behind winner Nicole Adam of Mansfield, Ohio.

Nowlin shot a round of one under par 71 on the first day, which included an eagle and three birdies.

She bested that by two strokes in the second round, carding five birdies on her way to shooting a blistering -3, 69.

Her two-day total of -4, 140 easily outdistanced second place finisher Lizzie Win, of Sylvania, Ohio, who finished with a 151.

With the win, Nowlin received an invitation to the Hurricane Tour Shop Invitational, Aug. 9 and 10 in Myrtle Beach, S.C., as well as an automatic bid into the Mid-Season Invitational, June 22-24 and 2014 Tour Championship, Dec. 6 and 7.

Nowlin will return to action on June 17 and 18 at the Jr. PGA Championship Qualifier at Maywood’s Golf Course in Bardstown.
