OVC Colonels set to take on Alabama A&M

RICHMOND — The Colonels will be looking for their fifth win in their first six games today when they take on Alabama A&M in McBrayer Arena.

EKU is coming off a hard-fought 74-67 win over Big South opponent High Point on Saturday, a game that featured 12 lead changes in the second half.

The Colonels got another strong game from senior point guard Glenn Cosey, who had a game-high 25 points. He also had six assists and only one turnover.

Corey Walden added 16 points, six assists and also committed one turnover.

The Colonels had a balanced effort on the boards to neutralize the High Point inside game.

Alabama A&M doesn’t present nearly as much of a challenge as the Panthers in the middle, but they do have a nice inside player in 6-foot-5 forward Demarquelle Tabb, who leads the team in rebounding at 8.3 boards per game. He also is the Bulldogs second-leading scorer at 11.3 points per game.

Senior guard Jeremy Crutcher leads the way for A&M with 14 points and 3.3 assists per game, while Arthur Capers is adding nine points per game.

Cosey lead the Colonels, averaging 19 points, five rebounds and six assists per game. He has shot 60 percent from the field and 61 percent from behind the three-point line in the last two contests.

The Colonels tied an OVC record with 20 three pointers against Warren Wilson College and added 10 three against High Point.

The game will feature a contrast in the turnover battle. The Bulldogs enter the contest averaging only 8.7 turnovers per game, while the EKU defense has forced its opponents into an average of 19.4 turnovers per game.

Tip off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
